Burns stops Mitchell

By Steven Ocallaghan: Ricky Burns last night turned in a performance worthy of a world champion in stopping the game Kevin Mitchell at the SECC in Glasgow. Burns, who in the past had sparred with Mitchell, had his number from the first bell.

The first 3 rounds were fairly tentative but Burns was outscoring Mitchell and taking less shots in return. The referee, who got switched from the judges seat stopped the fight at the right time.

Terry O’Conner averted more punishment being given out as Burns looked to strong for Mitchell.
Last night Burns did exactly he right thing, crisp with his punches and showed great defence. Any young fighter could learn from watching Burns as he lives, trains and fights the way a fighter should.

Burns showed that good crisp punches and a proper guard does matter and now he can look to bigger and better fights. Adrien Broner’s name gets mentioned whenever Burns has a good win.

Certain people think Broner is the real deal, but showed a severe lack of professionalism in his last bout when twice lacked the class to even care about making weight.

Whoever Ricky Burns fights, he ups his game and Broner would bring the best out in him.

Ricky punches solid, defends great and is as fit as any pro out there and I think he would get a decent points win.

Whatever anybody else says about Ricky Burns, about clinching and rabbit punches, they obviously don’t know about boxing. The aim is to hit the other guy and don’t get hit. There is no rabbit punches only good crisp boxing and at this stage of his career he is ready t o defend and defeat the best
