Additionally, Chavez Jr’s Freddie Roach is saying that Chavez Jr. is down to 166 lbs, according to Steve Kim.

Arum told the Boxingsocialist.com “He weighed in today at 165 lbs, so he’s right on course.”

I never doubted that Chavez Jr. would make weight for the fight. Chavez Jr. has always been very good at losing water weight for his fights, and I don’t doubt for a second that he’ll come in at 159 or right at 160 this Friday at the weigh-in. But that sure isn’t going to be the weight that he fights Martinez at. You can bet that Chavez Jr. will have ballooned up past 180 lbs come Saturday night and will have a significant weight advantage over Martinez.

In the last episode of Chavez Jr-Martinez 24/7 on HBO, Chavez Jr. looked like he was already starting to cut weight. He looked a lot thinner than usual but still huge for a middleweight. Chavez Jr. looked bigger than super middleweights Andre Ward and Chad Dawson, and he’s a middleweight. So, yeah, I expect Chavez Jr. to come into Saturday’s fight over 180. He’s come in at right on the button at 180 for some of his recent fights, but for this one I see Chavez Jr. coming in at 185 lbs at the minimum.

I seriously doubt that HBO will mention what Chavez Jr. weighs during the fight. It’ll be up to the boxing fans to guess how much Chavez Jr. is weighing when he steps foot inside the ring against Martinez on September 15th at the Thomas & Mack Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
