Image: Wladimir Klitschko to fight Mariusz Wach on November 10th in Hamburg, GermanyBy Dan Ambrose: It’s now official: IBO/IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (58-3, 51 KO’s) will be defending his title against Poland’s 6’7 1/2″, #4 WBC, #15 WBO, Mariusz Wach (27-0, 15 KO’s) on November 10th at the O2 World Arena, Altona, Hamburg, Germany.

Ignoring then inflated ranking that the World Boxing Council has given the slow as molasses 32-year-old Wach, this fight is perhaps the biggest mismatch that Wladimir has taken part in quite some time. At best, Wach is a bottom 15 fringe contender. At worst, he’s more of a 2nd tier fighter that has yet to prove that he deserves to be ranked in the top 15. This is going to be a one-sided fight because Wach is incredibly easy to hit, very, very slow of hand and foot, and without a jab. It’s going to be like shooting ducks for Wladimir.

All Wladimir could offer up for this mismatch is this to Sky Sports News “This fight will also be special because I have never fought against a boxer who is bigger than me and has a longer reach.”

Wach doesn’t have much of a reach advantage. His reach is one inch longer, but it’s meaningless because he doesn’t have a jab to speak of. Wach might as well be giving up 10 inches in reach because without a jab he’s going to get pounded in this fight, and he’s just so, so slow. It’s like watching someone fight undercard.

Wach’s biggest fights thus far have come against 2nd tier fighters Kevin McBride, Julius Long, Jason Gavern, Galen Brown and Tye Fields. It’s so sad that the WBC has given Wach a #4 ranking based on these empty wins. What happened to the days where a fighter had to earn a shot into the top five by beating actual contenders instead of 2nd tier fodder.

The Wach fight is just another one more of Wladimir’s terrible mismatches. In his last two fights he’s beaten 39-year-old Jean Marc Mormeck and 40-year-old Tony Thompason. I see Wach as a big step down from those guys.
