Image: Wilder: Tyson Fury needs to overcome his fears so we can fightBy Scott Gilfoid: The talented 6’7″ Deontay Wilder (24-0, 24 KO’s) is ready to start chopping down the so-called heavyweight contenders in the division so he can start what he hopes will be a fast climb to the top to get a shot at the Klitschko brothers before they both retire from boxing.

The first stepping stone to a title shot for Wilder is 6’9″ British heavyweight Tyson Fury (19-0, 14 KO’s), who Wilder is keen on getting in the ring immediately so he can knock him out in one or two rounds and move past him in the rankings.

Unfortunately, Fury hasn’t been following along with the program by agreeing to fight Wilder. Indeed, Fury has been talking about other fighters such as Ruslan Chagaev, Jean Marc Mormeck, Tomasz Adamek and Serqiy Liakhovich. I see it as all talk from Fury, because I seriously doubt he’ll fight any of those guys. We’ll likely see him fight another Martin Rogan type opponent where Fury fights out of the southpaw stance because it’s such a terrible mismatch that he’s just goofing around.

You know it’s a waste of a mismatch when a fighter turns southpaw and stays in the stance for the entire fight. Why on earth did Fury choose to fight Rogan for if it was such a mismatch that he just fiddled around fighting in a southpaw stance. The fight wasn’t even worth scheduling if it was that easy. It’s not Fury was developing his southpaw stance so he can use it someday against a fighter that’s actually good. Can you imagine Fury fighting southpaw against Wladimir Klitschko? He’d be eating right hands all night long and would be lucky if he escaped the first round.

Wilder said to boxingopinion1.blogspot.com “He could definitely be a potential opponent for me. I’m a type of fighter that gives fighters nightmares, just the thought of potentially fighting me. So once those fears have been overcome [by Fury] and when that happens there will be a fight.”

Fury isn’t going to fight Wilder, so I hope Wilder isn’t going to waste time asking for the fight too much longer. Fury is looking for guys that are clearly not as dangerous as Wilder. Why else pick the tiny 5’11” Chagaev or Mormeck out as possible opponents. Neither of those guys are big punchers like Wilder.
