Image: Wilder destroys Manswell in 1st round TKOBy Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Deontay Wilder (24-0, 24 KO’s) kept his perfect knockout record alive with a 1st round TKO victory over Kertson Manswell (22-6, 17 KO’s), knocking him down three times in the 1st round before the bout was finally halted at 2:10 of the round at the Exposition Hall, in Mobile, Alabama.

Wilder, 26, connected with a powerful left hook, right hand combination that put Manswell down for the first time in the round. After Manswell made it back to his feet, Wilder immediately knocked him down again this time with a short right hand to the head. To his credit, Manswell staggered to his feet beating the count for the second time. However, Wilder was having none of it, blasting Manswell with another left hook, right hand combination that knocked Manswell down for the third and final time.

Wilder’s power display was simply awesome, as no one had done that to Manswell before this night. It was very impressive.

With this win the 6’7″ Wilder will likely step it up against a higher level opponent for his next fight as he wants to fight for a world title next year in the summer. It’s going to take someone really good to give Wilder some rounds because his power is simply too good for most heavyweights to stand in there with him for any length of time.

In the undercard action, Dmitriy Salita (34-1-1, 18 KO’s) continued his climb back on top with a 4th round TKO win over Roberto Valenzuela (65-63-2, 54 KO’s0. Salita knocked Valenzuela down in the 3rd and then ended matters in the 4th.

Salita has been slow in turning his career around since being stopped by WBA World light welterweight champion Amir Khan in December 2009 in a 1st round knockout defeat. Salita has only fought four times since then beating weak opposition in each outing. Salita is trying to land a title shot against WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malingaggi in the future.
