Time to make the fights

By Steven Ocallaghan: Can you imagine Deontay Wilder v Tyson Fury or David Price. It might not sell out like a Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight but it would sell. America needs a new star. Eddie Chambers, good but not a star, Seth Mitchell has potential but hasn’t grabbed the imagination.

Now I’ve been critical of Wilder but the names aforementioned make sense. In Britain they don’t need to make they kind of fights as much because in reality nobody expects it from their fighters. When a good one comes along, and at the moment there are 3 , they will keep them apart and keep them winning.

With 3 contenders Britain feels it can compete again, but in the States, the holy grail is the World Heavyweight Title. Ask any boxing fan and he will say the same, not the middleweight, not the featherweight and no disrespect to these guys but the biggest and best is the Heavyweight title.

As first and foremost a boxing fan, I can regularly remember sitting up on a Saturday night and watching my two boxing heroes in Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield, and if i had to pick it would be the real deal. He came up in weight and challenged everyone, he might have lost but came again. A true American champion.

We need fights like this again. Boxing is not dying, dont believe what you hear about UFC, taking over the fighting mantle. Im a huge fan of UFC because it pits the wits of all Martial arts, but master of none.

There will only ever be one solitary sport when two gladiators go toe to toe, and that is boxing.

Get the big guns fighting each other. A loss doesn’t mean the end, it shows you where you need to improve. From a Brits point of view, its not about the country but the person and i love the belief when a good American comes along, I follow it.

Its all about the boxing.
