Image: Price: The Audley Harrison fight will do a lot for my developmentBy Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight champion David Price (13-0, 11 KO’s) is really pumped about his upcoming fight against 40-year-old journeyman Audley Harrison (28-5, 21 KO’s) on October 13th, and Price sees this a a fight that will really help his career move forward when they meet at the Echo Arena, in Liverpool, England.

Price, 29, said to Sky Sports News “It’s my biggest test so far without a doubt…It’s going to do a lot for my career development and it whets my appetite…It’s a real crossroads fight. If I was to lose where would I go from here?”

Is Price serious? If Price does win this fight, it’s not going to do jack for his career because Harrison had been getting beaten left and right for ages now, so why would this be a big deal suddenly for Price if he’s just another one of the many guys that already beat Harrison?

I’m not counting Harrison out in this fight by any means because he’s got a mean left hand, and Price’s chin has already been exposed at the amateur level. Price’s loyal fans like to flap their gums about Price not having been hurt at the pro level as of yet, but who has he fought? He’s not faced any punchers until now, and look how old Harrison is. You pick a guy that can punch but he’s incredibly old.

If Price wins this fight on October 13th, he’s still going to have just as many problems when he finally faces someone that can punch as he did before. Beating Harrison won’t change Price’s chin by hardening it and making him less susceptible to getting knocked out in the future.

This fight is just a foxhole for Price to waste time in while the Klitschkos get a little older. There’s no plus in a fight against Harrison, because Price is supposed to win with ease. If he doesn’t do that he’s going to look bad. If Price gets knocked out then a lot of what people already thought about him going into this fight will be confirmed.

Price says “It’s a good step up for me.”

Oh, man, now I’ve heard it all. This isn’t a step up, it’s another fight where Price is spinning his wheels and staying in one place fighting 2nd tier opposition.

The negative here is that Price is going to waste so much valuable time in his career facing guys like Harrison and Sam Sexton that the younger talents like Deontay Wilder will beat him to the punch by going after and getting a shot against one of the Klitschkos before Price. Wilder get the glory and Price just a little older.
