Mayweather and his business partner with TMT Promotions 50-Cent [Curtis Jackson] need to snatch up Cotto before he gets signed by Bob Arum of Top Rank to fight Manny Pacquiao in November.

A rematch between Mayweather and Cotto will be an exciting fight that will likely bring in similar pay per view numbers as they did last May when the fight hauled in 1.5 million PPV buys on HBO PPV. Those are outstanding numbers, and when you get that kind of a response to a fight, you’ve got to give fans an encore by fighting again. Cotto fought remarkably well and might have pulled off a win if he had tired in the last four rounds of the fight. Cotto seemed to let it all hang out in the 8th round when he punished Mayweather with big power shots. However, in going for broke in the 8th, Cotto didn’t have much left in the championship rounds and this allowed Mayweather to come on and basically out-work Cotto to get the decision.

Mayweather wants to get an important fight for his next bout, and with Pacquiao already off the table because Arum is looking to put him in with another fighter, Mayweather needs to get the next biggest fight and that’s a rematch against Cotto.

This would be huge business if Mayweather can get that fight, and not as if their bout last May was one-sided. The fight was close enough to where boxing fans will want to see them go at it again a second time and won’t mind paying big money to see them go at it one more time.
