Image: Khan likely to be matched against a soft puncher in next fightBy William Mackay: Former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan is coming off of a shocking 4th round TKO to WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia last month, and right now there’s a lot of questions whether Khan is finished as a big time championship level fighter.

His trainer Freddie Roach could be axed at any moment and replaced with who knows? And you got to figure that the trainer that gets the job could in turn be canned almost immediately if Khan fails to come up with a win in his next fight and suffers another knockout loss.

Boxing fans want to know who Khan will be fighting in his next fight in December, but you can bet it won’t be anyone that can punch with any real power. We’re very likely going to see Khan go back on the soft diet that he was on after he stopped by Breidis Prescott in the 1st round in 2008.

Here’s my picks for who could get the call by Khan’s promoters Golden Boy Promotion to fight him next:

Paul McCloskey
Cesar Rene Cuenca
Dierry Jean
Mauricio Herrera
Albert Mansah
Humberto Soto

It’s going to be one of those fighters or someone else that’s not a big puncher. There’s no way that Golden Boy is going to want to risk Khan’s neck by putting him in with someone with halfway decent power so that he can get knocked out again. It’s too risky to put Khan in with a lot of the top contenders because most of them can punch hard enough to get Khan out of there.

Khan has to be matched extra careful so that he doesn’t get blasted out once again. The chin just isn’t there for Khan, and his hand speed isn’t enough to save him in fights. He’s got to have a chin to beat the top guys because eventually they’ll catch up to him just like Garcia did and knock him out.
