Image: Froch should face Stevenson-George winner nextBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch has some tough choices to make for his next fight in November. Either he takes on some dangerous opponents like Andre Dirrell or the winner of the August 17th fight between Don George vs. Adonis Stevenson or Froch may have to settle for facing a soft opponent next time out.

His chances of getting a fight against unbeaten contender Thomas Oosthuizen went out the window when the South African decided to go in another direction and continue to fight in the United States to build up his name rather than going to Nottingham, England to fight Froch at home. If you look at the top contenders they’re either busy with fights that are already lined up that conflict with Froch or they’re guys that Froch would be taking a huge risk in fighting right now, such as Dirrell and/or Adonis Stevenson – Don George winner. Since Froch says he wants to face a high caliber opponent for his next fight he’s going to have to make a decision. He can definitely face the Stevenson-George winner because barring any kind of serious cuts, the winner of that fight should be able to fight Froch in November. And Dirrell’s schedule is wide open right now for a nice fight. Dirrell plans on fighting on November 17th, and a title shot against Froch would be perfect. Yeah, it would be very dangerous for Froch to take the fight given his huge struggles with Dirrell in October 2009, but Froch says he doesn’t believe in taking easy fights. If he doesn’t like taking soft fights then he needs to step up and fight Dirrell.

I’d like to see Froch face someone good next but I don’t believe he’ll do it. I can see him taking on a weaker target to ensure that he gets to his rematches against former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute and Mikkel Kessler in one piece in 2013. If Froch fights Dirrell or the Stevenson vs. George winner the chances of him taking a loss will be much too high.
