By Jim Dower: #11 IBF super middleweight contender Don George (23-2-1, 20 KO’s) took care of substitute opponent Dionisio Miranda (21-8-2, 18 KO’s), stopping him in the 6th round on Friday night at the Buffalo Run Casino, Miami, Oklahoma, to stay on course for an IBF super middleweight title eliminator match in October.

George hurt Miranda with a big right hand in the 6th. He then went right hand happy further hurting Miranda until the end of the round. The fight was then halted with the 27-year-old George getting a nice stoppage victory.

George looked pretty good but not great in walking Miranda down and landing solid jabs and hard right hands. I didn’t care for George’s inability to throw with power while on the move. It seemed that he always needed to have his feet set before he could throw anything with power.

This was his problem in losing his previous fight to Edwin Rodriguez last April, as Rodriguez used movement to easily out-box George. Miranda attempted to do the same thing, but he kept getting caught by George’s right hands and jabs. Miranda wasn’t able to move nearly as well as Rodriguez, but in fairness to George, he did show some improvement from his last fight.

It would have been interesting to see how George would have done against Stevenson if he had been in there with George. It was supposed to have been Stevenson facing George tonight but Stevenson suffered an injury to his left hand while training and had to pull out of the fight.

In the main event, if you want to call it that, junior middleweight contender Carlos Molina (20-5-2, 6 KO’s) defeated Damian Frias (19-5-1, 10 KO’s) by a 10 round unanimous decision by the scores of 100-90, 100-90 and 100-90. Molina used an effective inside attack to dominate the limited Frias, and keep him pretty well buttoned down, unable to get any leverage on his power shots. It was incredibly boring to watch but very effective for Molina.
