Also on the card will be heavyweight contenders Seth Mitchell (25-0-1, 19 KO’s) facing former cruiserweight and sometimes sparring partner for IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, Johnathan Banks (28-1-1, 18 KO’s).

Richard Schaefer, the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, told RingTV that he is actively trying to find a big name opponent for the 23-year-old Broner to fight on this day. As of now, it’s not looking too good, because all the top fighters at lightweight – Ricky Burns, Antonio DeMarco, and Miguel Vazquez are busy with other fights. This means that Schaefer is going to have to try and find the biggest name available in the contender ranks at lightweight or else he’ll have to try and get a super featherweight or light welterweight to meet Broner at lightweight.

What’s good about Broner is that he’s got the ability to fight in four weight divisions at any given moment because he basically fights at welterweight after he rehydrates for his bouts, but he fights at lightweight and is capable of fighting at super featherweight, light welterweight and welterweight as well. The only question is whether Golden Boy Promotions would be willing to risk having Broner fight against a light welterweight or welterweight in order to increase their changes of landing a well known opponent for him.

Mitchell, 30, is still trying to pick up some badly needed experience that will help him get to the next level. Mitchell didn’t look all that good in his last fight against Chazz Witherspoon last March. Mitchell stopped Witherspoon in the third round in that fight but this comes after Withespoon badly staggered Mitchell in the 2nd round of that fight.
