Broner to fight on November 3rd

By Scott Gilfoid: Adrien Broner (24-0, 20 KO’s) will now be fighting on November 3rd instead of October 6th, as his promotional team at Golden Boy were unable to nail down a quality opponent for the 23-year-old Broner’s previously scheduled date in October.

As such, Broner along with his undercard fight between Seth Mitchell vs. Johnathan Banks will be shifted to November fight date at a venue still to be determined, according to RingTV.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said to RingTV “We have locked in November 3rd as the date, as we have put together a list of a number of opponents for Adrien Broner.”

Schaefer is going to have to find someone that’s actually good this time if he’s going to get HBO to agree toe televise the fight, because there needs to be a bump up in quality for Broner. You can’t keep feeding him easy opponents like Vicente Escobedo and Eloy Perez. Broner needs someone good, preferably from the light welterweight division because the lightweight division has already been cleaned out of quality fighters after a lot of the top fighters like Juan Manuel Marquez moved up in weight. Broner could find himself the top fighter in the division but still not have really accomplished anything due to the mediocre opposition that permeates this division. It’s pretty much the same with the division that Broner just left. The super featherweight division is just as barren of talent.

If Broner is determined to stay at lightweight, this is about all he can hope to fight in this empty division and even these fights are pretty dull mismatches:

Antonio DeMarco
Ricky Burns
Kevin Mitchell
Miguel Acosta
Miguel Vazquez
John Molina
Urbano Antillon
Yuriorkis Gamboa

Gamboa is the only interesting fight for Broner at this weight, but getting Gamboa to agree to fight Broner could be difficult if not impossible. I think Broner and Golden Boy won’t get Gamboa in the ring anytime soon.
