But with the 34-year-old Stevenson injuring his left hand in training the week of the fight, he had to pull out and was replaced by Dionisio Miranda. George fought well enough to take Miranda out in the 6th round in a back and forth fight.

Now Stevenson and George will go ahead and meet on October 13th in an IBF super middleweight eliminator bout at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Canada, with the winner of the fight getting a shot against IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch in 2013, if Froch still has the title after his fights in November this year, and March of next.

George will be lucky if he can get past Stevenson, because he looked less than impressive in beating Miranda. George looked slow, and got hit a lot with some really big shots from Miranda. George didn’t have to worry about speed like he would against the quick-fisted Stevenson nor did he have to deal with a southpaw stance. Those factors could make Stevenson a real nightmare, especially early on when Stevenson is at his most dangerous.

George, a notorious slow starter, didn’t really start fighting effectively against Miranda until the 6th round when he started unloading on him with power shot after power shot. Stevenson won’t allow George to get to the 6th round if George starts as slowly as he did against Miranda, because Stevenson will blast him down with a flurry early on. If George thought he had it bad in his 7th round knockout loss to Francisco Sierra in July 2010, just wait and see what Stevenson would do to him, as Stevenson is a much faster starter with bigger power.
