Image: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Kubrat Pulev would be a good fight for DecemberBy Jason Kim: IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (58-3, 51 KO’s) is said to be considering heavyweight contenders Kubrat Pulev (16-0, 8 KO’s) and Mariusz Wach (27-0, 15 KO’s) for his next fight in November or December of this year.

I frankly don’t have much use for Wach as a contender, because he’s so slow and predictable with his punches and doesn’t have a good jab to make up for his many flaws in his game. But the 6’4 1/2″ Pulev from Bulgaria is a very serious opponent and perhaps the best fighter that Wladimir will have faced in many years.

I know former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye was considered a real threat to Wladimir last year in July, but Haye was nothing but a small cruiserweight trying not to get hit by Wladimir in survival oriented fight. Pulev is much different than Haye. Pulev weighs around 250 lbs, and he’s got a jab that is almost as good Wladimir’s and he’s not too lazy or too afraid to use it. Pulev also has an excellent right hand that he likes to throw and if he connects with his bludgeoning shots against Wladimir, he’ll knock him cold.

Wladimir will have to try and get Pulev out of there somehow because he can’t get into a jabbing war with him and expect to win. Pulev is a more solid fighter than Wladimir with a better chin and he seems to be able to take shots with no problems with hitting the deck like Wladimir. Pulev also has tough skin and doesn’t swell up or cut like Wladimir does when he gets hit for any length of time.
