What next for Dereck Chisora?

Image: What next for Dereck Chisora?By Mark Havey: For a fight between two boxers who don’t hold British licenses, David Haye (26-2, KO’s 24) Vs Dereck Chisora (15-4, KO’s 9) gained plenty of hype. It stimulated a vast amount of curiosity in people. I was one of those people.

Everything I predicted was wrong aside from Haye winning. But I didn’t expect a KO especially when I heard it was a 10 round fight. Chisora has a brilliant chin and I have never seen Haye as a true Heavyweight, and because of this I didn’t think he could hurt Chisora, despite his high KO ratio. I thought that Chisora would be more aggressive. I thought that Haye might briefly meet the canvas. I expected Haye to be passive in the first round. As you can see I was very wrong on alot of things.

A while ago I wrote about whether this was good or bad for boxing. It turned out good. I had stated that if they fight hard and behave, they could redeem themselves for the farce that saw them quizzed by police in Munich. it was nice to see them shake hands at the end of the fight. I think the respect was genuine and deserved, with Haye saying “Dereck has one of, if not the best chin I have ever hit”.

So what is next for Chisora? This won’t do too much damage. He has only had 19 fights and look at the names he has shared a ring with. he should still be a prospect but he has fought at domestic, European, and world level. a step back is needed and is foreseeable. A rematch with Fury or Helenius could be good. Povetkin would work out well. But I would like to see him fight Price. It is a big step back but the fight could generate huge interest. David Price hits hard but is not as fast as Haye. Whoever Chisora fights next I am certain it will be tough. Whatever faults he has, no one can call him a coward. He takes tough fights. is record is gradually becoming an mediocre one. But that’s not because he isn’t good, it’s because he never ducks a fight.
