Image: Robert Guerrero = Safe fight for Khan in DecemberBy William Mackay: If Golden Boy Promotions really wants to make sure that Amir Khan (26-3, 18 KO’s) doesn’t lose his next fight, then they should look no further than matching him up against WBC welterweight interim champion Robert Guerrero next. We saw how Guerrero has absolutely no power at 147 in his fight against Selcuk Aydin last weekend. Guerrero won the fight simply by landing a ton of arm punches. He almost threw 1000 punches but only a little 200 landed.

Khan would have no problems against Guerrero with his lack of hand speed and power. I honestly don’t think Khan would have any problems winning this fight, as long as he was open to moving up in weight to make the fight happen. Guerrero would likely be more than happy to face a well known fighter like Khan because there would be a nice payday involved.

The only thing I could see getting in the way of a potential Khan-Guerrero fight is their mutual promoters at Golden Boy Promotions. They may want to have Guerrero keep winning with the outside chance of getting a big money fight against WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the near future. We’re talking a really tiny chance of that fight happening, so Golden Boy will be taking a risk by matching Guerrero up against Khan because Guerrero may end up getting a small name to fight and still end up losing.

Guerrero’s lack of power and hand speed makes him an easy mark in the welterweight division. He really should wise up and move back down in weight if he can’t the Mayweather fight, but he’s not going to do that. He wants that green stuff. But if Golden Boy doesn’t block the fight, then Khan and Guerrero should fight because it’s a fight that could help the winner of the bout out. If Guerrero can out-punch Khan, he could win a decision like he did with Aydin. And with Khan, he doesn’t have much to worry about and can focus on boxing his way to a decision.

Unfortunately, I think Golden Boy won’t let this fight happen Guerrero would likely lose and that would remove any chance of him fighting Mayweather. I don’t see there being any chance at all, but Golden Boy doesn’t know that.
