Robert Guerrero: Pacquiao is reckless, he’s tailor-made for me

Image: Robert Guerrero: Pacquiao is reckless, he's tailor-made for meBy Chris Williams: Former two division world champion Robert Guerrero (29-1-1, 18 KO’s) likes his chances against the aging Manny Pacquiao, and he figures he could beat the Filipino at this point in his career. Guerrero saw a lot of flaws from Pacquiao in his recent loss to Tim Bradley, and he feels he could take advantage of these flaws to beat him.

Guerrero said to Ringtv “The way Pacquiao comes in reckless. He comes in a lot of times jumping in. Being a left-hander also, I really feel that he’s tailor-made for me to knock him out…I have done my homework on Pacquiao. I would use my jab and go with a triple and quadruple jab.”

Guerrero also wants to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. and is moving in weight to fight unbeaten welterweight contender Selcuk Aydin later this month for the interim WBC welterweight title. A win over Aydin will put Guerrero in striking distance of a fight against Mayweather. I don’t see Mayweather ever taking that fight, nor do I see the World Boxing Council ever forcing Mayweather to fight Guerrero, but in theory Guerrero will be in line for a fight with him.

I believe Guerrero is good enough to beat Pacquiao if he could get him in the ring. We’ve seen Pacquiao basically lose his last two fights against 38-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez and now Bradley. If Marquez can beat Pacquiao, then Guerrero can beat him as well, because Guerrero is at least as good as Marquez is right now. Guerrero would take advantage of Pacquiao’s lack of work rate and dominate him in each round. Pacquiao would likely try and steal the rounds by coming on at the tail end, but it wouldn’t be enough to beat Guerrero.

Guerrero is wrong about Pacquiao jumping in when he fights. He doesn’t do that anymore. Instead of jumping in, Pacquiao plods his way in like an old heavyweight. Believe me, if Pacquiao could jump around like he used to, he’d have easily beaten Bradley instead of losing to him.
