Image: Khan to return to the ring on December 15th against an opponent still to be determinedBy William Mackay: According to RingTV, former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-3, 18 KO’s) will be returning to the ring on December 15th against an opponent to be named later. Khan has already mentioned that he wants a rematch against WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia, who starched him in the 4th round on July 14th.

Khan thinks that his promoters at Golden Boy will be able to successfully pressure Garcia into taking the rematch. Khan may not realize that Garcia only wants the biggest fight possible for himself for his next bout. If that means that Khan is the biggest fight for him, he’ll take the rematch and it won’t have anything to do with him being pressured into the fight. The money will talk.

Khan needs to think hard before he faces Garcia again, because the way he slicked through Khan it’s likely he’ll be able to do it again. Garcia hits too hard, he’s too accurate with his shots, and Khan is too vulnerable due to his glass jaw. The way that Khan took a beating in the Garcia fight, he really needs to let his head clear by taking a few easy fights so that he doesn’t get knocked out again. Khan needs at least two or three fights to work on his defense, because he was so wide open for everything that Garcia threw at him.

Khan thinks he can outbox Garcia and beat him without getting hit, but he’s kidding himself. If Khan decides to only jab and move, Garcia will shift into Plan B by stalking Khan, cutting off the ring and forcing him to fight. Khan would then have to fight for his career. He won’t be able to get away with shoving and pulling down on Garcia’s head. The only thing that would save Khan in that situation is if the referee decided to let Khan foul. He’s not going to be able to take Garcia’s shots for long if he’s got no way of escaping.
