Khan believes that Garcia isn’t keen on giving him an immediate rematch and may choose to go in another direction for his next fight instead. Khan doesn’t want this, and is hoping that his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions will somehow force the rematch.

Khan said to the Guardian.co.uk “He’ll [Garcia] have to take the fight. No fighter likes to vacate titles, so if Garcia doesn’t want to fight me he might have to vacate the titles which I think is very bad. Let’s see what happens.”

The last time I checked there wasn’t a rematch clause in the contract for the Khan-Garcia fight, so it’s going to be a real reach for Garcia to be stripped of his titles for not giving Khan an immediate rematch. Also, it would require both the WBA and the WBC to put pressure on Garcia at the same time to force him at the threat of stripping him to give Khan the rematch. I don’t see this as an issue, because Garcia obviously will fight Khan again if the money is right. He’s not afraid of Khan after beating him so easily.

Golden Boy will likely apply pressure on Garcia to give Khan the rematch, because Khan absolutely has to face Garcia again in order to erase the sting of his loss. If Khan can’t fight Garcia again there won’t be any closure for him and it might take him a lot longer to come back from this loss.
