Khan was knocked down three times, with two of the knockdowns coming in the 4th. Khan was getting knocked silly by Garcia at the time referee Kenny Bayless decided it was high time that he step in and save Khan from being poleaxed by Garcia.

Khan was on wobbly legs and was in danger of being knocked cold from one of Garcia’s big left hooks.

After the fight Khan said this as quoted by BBC Sport “I was a little surprised the referee stopped [the fight]. I thought he was going to let us continue. My mind was clear and I thought my legs were OK, but I respect the referee, the judges and the commission, maybe they made the fight call.”

Maybe? There you have it. Khan showing how out of tough with reality he was after the fight, because anyone with two eyes could see that Khan was totally finished and badly in need of saving by the referee. It’s sad that Khan doesn’t get it. I’m sure he will once he sits down and watches the fight with an open mind. He wasn’t going to survive because Garcia was going to find him again with one of his big left hooks and would have finished him off.

At some point it would have turned into a big joke if the referee hadn’t stopped the fight. If Khan was able to keep getting up after being knocked down, I can see Khan getting knocked six or seven times before he’d have to be taken out of the ring on a stretcher. It’s best that the referee stepped in and pulled the plug on the fight.
