Khan: I got caught with a lucky shot

Image: Khan: I got caught with a lucky shotBy Scott Gilfoid: Sometimes fighters can’t fully grasp when they get whipped, and they desperately reach out for any flimsy excuse they can think of to avoid the awful truth about themselves and their lack of talent. I think Amir Khan may be one of these fighters that is still in a state of denial about his glass chin/neck after getting spanked by Danny Garcia in a 4th round TKO last weekend in Las Vegas.

Just look what Khan had to say about his thrashing in an interview at Sky Sports News “I got caught with a lucky shot. I should never have got caught.”

Oh, how sad. A lucky shot? The machine doesn’t know he’s a bad machine – Midnight Express. That’s hilarious. I wonder which shot was the lucky one that Garcia clobbered Khan with? I must have seen 30 lucky shots in the last two rounds that almost knocked Khan senseless. He was running around doing a chick dance the last two rounds, and the referee probably should have halted it in the 3rd. He really gave Khan a long lifeline in keeping him in there, and was that extended count in the 3rd when Khan was knocked down.

The referee Kenny Bayless should have let the action resume after Khan got back up but he stood there looking at him for like five seconds. That’s time that Garcia could have used to finish Khan off. I thought I was seeing a repeat of Khan’s fight with Marcos Maidana, where Maidana was having the action stopped repeatedly by referee Joe Cortez after Maidana had Khan on bambi legs in the 10th.

But back to the comment about Khan seeing Garcia’s shot as a “Lucky shot.” What the heck is Khan talking about? That wasn’t lucky. Garcia was going to brain Khan sooner or later anyway because Khan was standing right in front of him just begging to be knocked cold by exchanging shots. Fighters with chins can do that kind of thing, but when you’ve got a glass jaw/neck like Khan you don’t want to be doing that.

Khan’s knockout loss is the end result of messing around with a fighter that he shouldn’t have been messing with. Khan didn’t seem to show Garcia the same respect that he did Marcos Maidana and Lamont Peterson for some reason. How I do I know that? I know it because Khan wasn’t running for his life against Garcia like he was in the Maidana and Peterson fight. Khan wasn’t pulling down on Garcia’s head and shoving him for all he’s worth like he was in the Maidana and Peterson fights. That tells me that Khan didn’t respect Garcia enough to put on his track shoes and run for the hills.
