Image: Hearn sees Kell Brook fighting for IBF 147 lb title in December against Alexander-Bailey winnerBy Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is counting on his unbeaten fighter welterweight contender Kell Brook (27-0, 18 KO’s) defeating highly rated American contender Carson Jones (34-8-2, 24 KO’s) this Saturday night and then moving on to face the winner of the September 8th fight between IBF welterweight strap holder Randall Bailey and Devon Alexander.

I expect Alexander to win that fight, and I feel sorry for Hearn if he puts Brook in with Alexander because he’ll be back to square one after that fight. Alexander is the much more talented fighter in my estimation, and he’ll make easy work of the slower, more limited Brook.

Hearn said to Sky Sports News “It’s so difficult to manufacture a world title shot, particularly in this division. That’s why we want to become a mandatory…I expect Alexander to beat Bailey, so Brook vs. Alexander, probably some time in December, is going to be a huge fight.”

Maybe Brook wouldn’t have so hard of a time getting a title shot if Hearn would least put him in with someone with a pulse for Christ sakes. That’s kind of how it’s done in case Hearn doesn’t know that. Hearn also hasn’t helped Brook by keeping him squirreled away in the UK, away from the eyes of the American boxing public. How does Hearn expect one of the American fighters and promoters want to bother wasting time defending against Brook if his fights aren’t shown in the U.S? The guy is obscure and not worth it, especially with him always wanting to fight in in the UK at Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire. A talented world champion isn’t going to do Hearn and Brook any favors by flying over there just because Brook prefers to fight all of his fights in the UK. Brook has got to get out of comfort zone by fighting in the U.S if he wants to get the attention of the champions. Otherwise, Brook has no choice but to wait, wait, and wait for a title shot.

Even if he becomes a mandatory challenger for the Bailey-Alexander winner, which I seriously doubt, Brook will still likely have to wait one to two more years. They may string this out forever and let Brook age. What he should be doing is dumping his UK fights and fighting all of his bouts in the U.S, so that he can get a title fight much quicker. Of course, that would require for Brook to win on Saturday and against whoever he fights next, and I don’t think he will. I see Carson Jones whipping him on Saturday.
