For the 24-year-old Groves, #3 WBO, #5 WBC, #9 IBF, #11 WBA, it will be the first time that he’s fought in the United States. The Guerrero-Aydin fight will be televised on Showtime in the U.S, but it’s unclear if the Groves fight will be shown to American audiences. It’s doubtful because he’s an unknown in the U.S and there might not be much upside to showing his fight against Sierra especially given that it’s a mismatch due to Sierra having lost two out of his last three fights.

Sierra, 24, has been in with several good fighters – Edison Miranda, Thomas Oothuizen and Jesus Gonzales. The problem is he’s lost all three of those fights with two of the losses coming by a knockout. If those guys were able to dominate Sierra it’s highly likely that Groves will do the same. Sierra does have a stoppage win over super middleweight contender Don George in 2010. It’s highly doubtful that Sierra could repeat that stoppage if he fought George today because he’s really improved.

Groves was supposed to have challenged for a world title against WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz. However, a nose injury suffered while training wiped out that fight. Groves still remains ranked high in the super middleweight division and as long as he gets through the Sierra bout in flying colors he should be knocking on the door to face the winner of the August 25th fight between Arthur Abraham and Stieglitz.

It would be great if Groves’ fight with Sierra makes it on television in the U.S because Groves could be opening up a new market for himself if he can have his fights televised in the U.S.
