Image: Deontay Wilder having problems getting opponent for 8/4 dateBy Scott Gilfoid: With Kelvin Price dropping out of his scheduled August 4th fight with knockout artist Deontay Wilder (23-0, 23 KO’s), it has left Wilder without an opponent for this date and his team having to scramble around in a hurry to try and find an opponent.

Contrary to a couple of websites that reported earlier that Jameel McCline and Rich Power is in the running for Wilder’s next fight this isn’t going to happen, because both McCline and Power have reportedly declined the fight with the hard hitting Wilder already according to the tuscaloosanews.com.

This means that Wilder and his management team are going to have to look elsewhere for his next opponent. The 6’7″ Wilder is ready to progress to fighting 10 round bouts for his August 4th fight, and they want a recognizable opponent that can give Wilder some rounds and help him keep progressing. I don’t know if McCline and Power were the fighters that would do that for Wilder, so it’s no loss that neither of them will be facing him next.

Wilder is coming off of sensational performance against Owen Beck last month. Wilder knocked Beck down four times en route to getting an easy 3rd round stoppage. It was impressive to see Wilder reduce a good fighter to a beaten victim in only three rounds, but that’s a testament to Wilder’s huge right hand power. In that fight, Wilder also got a knockdown with one of his left hands, which is a rarity for him because he’s known for having only right hand power. But he’s doing a good job of developing his left hand to where it’s a lethal weapon for him as well. He still needs a lot of work, though, and has to also develop his jab more to where it’s a weapon he can use to keep shorter fighters on the outside.
