Chisora didn’t look half bad in losing to Haye

Image: Chisora didn't look half bad in losing to HayeBy Scott Gilfoid: Dereck Chisora looked damn good for a fighter that was taken out in the 5th round tonight by David Haye. Say what you will about Chisora getting knocked down twice and stopped, I thought Chisora was excellent in his ability to cut off the ring. Had Chisora been a little better at covering up while attacking and throwing more punches, I could see him beating Haye. It’s too bad Chisora didn’t have a good trainer that could have taught him these things before facing Haye.

Chisora’s career isn’t over after this fight. He’s got some good tools, but he needs to come to the United States and get with a trainer that can work on his defense and teach him throw more punches.

In the 5th round, Chisora ran into problems when he was chasing Haye all around the ring. Chisora was off balance at one point and got nailed with a right hand that put him down. Chisora never recovered from that shot which left him on his hands and knees on the canvas. Haye unloaded on him after he got up and flurried until Chisora hit the canvas a second time.

Chisora’s career looks to be in trouble with him now losing four out of his last five fights, but I think it’s a wake-up call for him that he needs to leave the UK and come to the United States where he can get a good trainer like Floyd Mayweather Sr. or Pernell Whitaker and learn how to fight properly. I think Chisora could be a nice serviceable heavyweight. I mean, I don’t see him as the main guy once the Klitschkos blow town but I think he could be a good paper champion or one of the interim champs. I’d favor Chisora over Alexander Povetkin any day.
