Image: British boxing news 20/7/12By Dan Henderson: Welcome to your weekly roundup of British boxing news. We start with last Saturday night at Upton Park where David Haye stopped Derek Chisora in a 5th round TKO victory. It was a marvelous night with a great atmosphere which was due to the 30,000+ crowd who were treated to 5 rounds of action which ended with Chisora stopped but both guys showed some class as they embraced at the end all but ending their feud.

Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas. Amir Khan was stunned by a 4th round stoppage defeat to unbeaten American Danny Garcia. It was a good fight with Khan looking the better of the two but he was caught with a big shot in the 3rd round which he got up from but never fully recovered and he was knocked down twice more in the 4th and referee Kenny Bayless stopped the fight handing Garcia the WBA and Ring magazine title’s to add to his WBC title.

In other news there is a rumour that Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton is back in training for a potential fight with WBA welterweight champion Paulie Mallignaggi. I really hope Hatton is not contemplating a return as he has no need to we all know how great he was. When trainer Bob Shannon was asked he told britishboxers.co.uk “I haven’t spoken to Ricky, I believe he has been away on his holidays, and if I did know whether or not he was coming back I would keep it to myself because I believe that a fighter should be the one to let his family, fans and friends know if he is going to fight again,”

Former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli has been banned for 6 months for failing a drug test after his fight against Shane McPhilbin. He tested positive for methylhexaneamine, a specified stimulant which can be found in nutritional supplements that can be bought in various shops. The ban will run from the 19th of April until the 18th of October.

Hopefully this will be the first of many weekly boxing roundups.
