McKenna (McJack): Despite what was reported last week on boxing sites all over the world the matchup between WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KO’s) and undefeated Manuel Charr (21-0, 11 KO’s) has not been finalized.

The Klitschko – Charr fight was supposed to have taken place either on the 1st or the 8th of September in Ukraine.

Boxing Insider is reporting that Klitschko manager Bernd Boente was quoted as saying:

“The parties are still in contract negotiations, in some ways still a long way apart.”

Boente added that Charr is “Only one of four possible candidates.”

Polish challenger Mariusz Wach is another possibility as is Canadian power puncher Bermane Stiverne.

There have been numerous reports that Vitali’s fight in September would be his last although that is not a certainty. In any case the soon to be 41 year old “Dr. Ironfist” will be retiring shortly to pursue a full time political career in Ukraine, which is his homeland.

Vitali had wanted to take on former WBA heavyweight champion David “Hayemaker” Haye (25-2, 23 KO’s) before his retirement and it is thought that he would still like to fight Haye so that he can “send him to the floor!” as he puts it. “Dr. Ironfist” has some unfinished business with Haye over remarks the “Hayemaker” made in the build up to the huge fight last July between Haye and the WBA/IBF/WBO/IBO and Ring Magazine heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (57-3, 50 KO’s).

While in Haye’s mind he was merely attempting to hype the fight with Wladimir, it is Vitali’s opinion that the “Hayemaker” brought dishonor to his family. According to Boente a contract had been sent to Haye for a match with Vitali but Haye opted to fight Derek “Del-Boy” Chisora instead. Boente in turn began the search for another opponent.

The Haye – Chisora brawl at the post fight press conference following the Klitschko – Chisora fight generated a great deal of interest. The video of the brawl went viral within hours. Haye apparently believes that he will have more bargaining power with Vitali if he disposes of Chisora impressively. Haye, who is a genius at self promotion, used the video of his brawl with Chisora to come up with a hit video of the event on I phone. The video depicts Haye decapitating Chisora while hitting him with a bottle clenched in his fist.
