Image: Pacquiao weighs in a career high 147By Chris Williams: Earlier today, WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KO’s) weighed in at 147 pounds, a career high for him for his fight against Tim Bradley (28-0, 12 KO’s) for Saturday night. This is a 1 1/2 pounds more than his previous career high against Joshua Clottey in 2010.

As Dan Rafael pointed out, you have to wonder whether Pacquiao spent too much time in training camp studying the bible rather than training because he neither looked right mentally or looked in the best shape compared to past fights. Perhaps it’s a case of diminishing returns. A fighter can only get to a peak condition so many times before their bodies start giving out on them. In contrast, Bradley looked completely shredded at 146 lbs.

You have to wonder what happened to Pacquiao for him to come in heavier, especially when he’s had leg cramping problems in the last few fights. You’d think with those kinds of issues plaguing him, Pacquiao would want to work really hard to come in leaner. As heavy as Pacquiao looked, I don’t think he’s going to be able to bound around the ring like he used to do earlier in his career. He looks too heavy on his feet and maybe too old to fight like that now.

This is the biggest fight of Bradley’s career, and he clearly wants it. His excellent condition shows you have badly Bradley wants this fight. With Pacquiao, you can’t say the same thing because he’s been there too many times. He looked frightened and out of sorts at the weigh-in. Pacquiao has beaten a lot of guys in the past three years, but he’s fought a lot of older guys that were over the hill and/or dealing with catchweight weakness. Bradley is in his prime and not an old codger or weight drained fighter. I think tomorrow night we could be seeing the real Pacquiao unmasked by Bradley.
