Kevin Johnson will win the Prizefighter tourney on Wednesday; says he wants Price after that

By Scott Gilfoid: American heavyweight Kevin Johnson (26-1-1, 12 KO’s) will be competing in the Prizefighter tournament on Wednesday night at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, London, UK.

The 32-year-old Johnson is widely considered to come out on top as the tournament winner, because of his talent and experience. There’s really not much in the way of competition for Johnson unfortunately. He’ll be facing inexperienced Noureddine Meddoune (4-1, 4 KO’s) in his first bout and he should have no problems beating that guy.

In other fights in the tournament, Albert Sosnowski faces Maurice Harris, Marcelo Luiz Nascimento battles the winner of the Tom Dallas vs. Tom Little bout.

I expect Johnson to breeze through the tournament and have his hand raised at the end. Johnson told Sky Ringside that he wants to face unbeaten David Price or Tyson Fury after he picks up the Prizefighter trophy. However, let’s be real about this. Those guys aren’t going to fight a talent like Johnson. He’s too skilled and dangerous because of his excellent jab. Johnson also has good power, as we’ll see tomorrow night. He expects to KO all three of his opponents in the tournament.

Johnson gave WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko all kinds of problems in their fight in December 2009. Although Johnson lost the fight by using the wrong game plan, he puffed up Vitali’s eyes and had him laboring for breath. Johnson did everything perfectly except for not throwing enough punches.

I’d favor Johnson over Fury and Price any day of the week. Those guys probably won’t ever fight him, but it would be nice to see Johnson show his stuff against one or both of them.
