There still isn’t a venue as of yet, but the fight is scheduled to take place in the United States.

Golovkin, 30, has to settle for this fight with Pirog, because WBA Super World middleweight champion Felix Sturm, who Golovkin was supposed to be fighting, decided to side step him and take a unification bout with IBF champ Daniel Geale instead. This left Golovkin with no opponent and so he decided to face Pirog.

This should be a good fight, as both fighters have excellent boxing skills and big power. Golovkin has the better power, but he may have problems trying to land his shots with Pirog constantly moving around the ring. The different angles that Pirog uses could be a problem for Golovkin. Both fighters are from Eastern Europe, but Pirog is different because he appears to have copied a lot from Floyd Mayweather Jr’s game.

It makes him a lot tougher nut to crack, even for a big puncher like Golovkin. Pirog can be timed because he tends to attack a lot, and Golovkin will definitely have opportunities to land his shots. The fight could come down to which fighter has the better jab, because Pirog may opt to fight from the outside in order to keep from getting hit with one of Golovkin’s big shots. Pirog won’t last long if he tries to trade with Golovkin on a consistent basis.
