Deontay Wilder to fight on July 24th or July 25th

By Scott Gilfoid: Fresh off his impressive 3rd round destruction of Owen Beck (29-11, 20 KO’s) last Saturday night at the Killer Buzz Arena in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, unbeaten heavyweight phenom Deontay Wilder (23-0, 23 KO’s) laid out his next fight date on his agenda, saying he’ll be back in the ring on either July 24th or July 25th next month.

In the post fight press conference, the talented 6’7″ Wilder said that his next fight could be on HBO on July 24th. Wilder also said “I want to get in the Top 10 by the end of the year and be fighting for a title next year at this time.”

Wilder says he plans on fighting a lot this year and stepping it up with each fight so that he can crack the Top 10 in the heavyweight division. Wilder’s right hand is a thing of beauty. I’ve seen all of the top heavyweight contenders and champions fight, and none of them have the kind of power that Wilder has in his right hand. And Wilder’s left hand is also really improving. I was really astonished how much better it looked last night from his previous fight last month against Jesse Oltmanns. Wilder was able to generate tremendous power when he connected with Beck. All Wilder needs is a little more work on his left as well as his jab, I can see him continuing to knockout everyone until he gets a title shot next year. He’s that good.

For kicks, I wouldn’t mind seeing Wilder take on some of the European heavyweights like David Price, Tyson Fury and Robert Helenius. I can see Wilder knocking them all out because of his huge advantage in power and raw athleticism. He’s not just a puncher, he’s an athlete, and that’s what makes Wilder so dangerous. He moves around the ring like a middleweight despite being one of the largest heavyweights in terms of height in the division.
