Image: Danny Green now wondering about his loss to TarverBy Allan Fox: With yesterday’s news of 43-year-old IBO cruiserweight champion Antonio Tarver (29-6-1, 20 KO’s) testing positive for anabolic steroids for his 12 round draw against Lateef Kayode earlier this month, former IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green (31-5, 27 KO’s) is now wondering whether Tarver was on the stuff when he beat Green last year by a 9th round stoppage in July of 2011.

Green told thewest.com.au “I’m shocked, but it does make you think. When he came over for the promo tour, he looked so much bigger. Yet he was able to lose, I’d say, around 25 kilograms in eight weights – yet how did he keep his strength?…I hear the IBO has stripped him, so is it still a loss on my career?”

Of course it’s still going to be a loss on the 39-year-old Green’s career. If Tarver tested negative for his fight with Green, they’re not going to go back in the past and remove Tarver’s win just because he tested positive for his bout against Kayode which took place 11 months later. That doesn’t make any sense. Green will have to settle for having been beaten by Tarver, and he’ll never know if Tarver was using or not.

At this point it’s still unclear what will happen with Tarver’s draw with Kayode. You would have to suspect that the results will be changed to a no contest by the California State Athletic Commission given Tarver’s positive test. However, Tarver still has his sample B, which was taken after the Kayode fight, to be tested. If that comes up negative then it change everything, because if Tarver is dirty, both tests would come up positive for steroids, not just one.
