Image: Angel Garcia: Khan will run if he gets hitBy William Mackay: Angel Garcia, the father of WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (23-0, 14 KO’s), sees Amir Khan (26-2, 18 KO’s) as a spoiled fighter that is afraid to get hit because of his weak chin. Angel thinks Khan will run all night once he tastes some of Danny’s shots on July 14th in their fight for the WBA and WBC 140 pound titles at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Angel told RingTV “Khan fought the same against [Lamont] Peterson as he’s always fought. He slaps and runs. He doesn’t like getting hit, but if you hit him, he’ll run for three rounds. He knows he can be knocked out…Once that happens, it’s always in the back of a fighters’ mind.”

Khan didn’t just get hurt once. He’s been hurt in the Marcos Maidana fight as well, and he’s incredibly lucky that the fight wasn’t halted when he was stumbling around the ring after getting hurt from a right hand from Maidana in the 10th.

Angel is right about Khan running. He likes to throw quick flurries with little power on them, and then run away. When his opponents get in range, he resorts to grabbing them around the head to shove them, pull them forward in a bent over position or wrap them up in a headlock. But he’ll run all night long if Garcia lands some hard power shots against him, because he clearly doesn’t like to stand in front of his opponents and trade. We saw what happened to Khan in the Breidis Prescott fight when he tried to slug with him. Khan got knocked out in the 1st round. We saw what happened to Khan when he tried to punch with Peterson in the 4th round last December. Peterson proved to be the stronger fighter, and that put Khan in the retreat mode for the remainder of the fight.
