Wladimir: Maybe David Price looks up to me, we could fight

Image: Wladimir: Maybe David Price looks up to me, we could fightBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko sees a lot of himself in the fighting style of undefeated British heavyweight champion David Price, and he thinks the two of them could meet up in the future if Price is willing to take that step. Of course, if Price waits too long he can pretty much forget it. Waiting until Wladimir is in a wheel chair won’t likely get him a fight.

Wladimir said to the Dailystar.co.uk “Maybe David Price and I are going to end up fighting. I will not exclude David from my list of possible opponents. We will see how he develops himself…I see myself in him in a certain way. He is a couple of inches taller than I am, but his technique is pretty much the same as mine, so there are certain similarities between us – and my trainer Emanuel Steward always points them out…Maybe Price looks up to me.”

I wouldn’t count on Price taking that fight with him if I was Wladimir. Price already said he’s not quite ready to face the Klitschkos, so Wladimir shouldn’t even waste time commenting on it. When Price will be ready is anyone’s guess. Given that Wladimir is 36 fight now, my guess is maybe when he’s 38 or 39, and looking as if he’s lost a few steps. Maybe when Wladimir is ready for his walker, Price will take the fight.

If they were to fight right now it would be a slaughter with Wladimir destroying Price, likely with the first punch he lands. Price doesn’t move well around the ring like Wladimir, and looks really rigid, as if he’s on a stiff pair of stilts. Wladimir’s jab is much, much better than Price’s jab. I’m not even sure if Price can extend his arm out in front of him from a long distance required to hit a tall heavyweight like Wladimir, because I’ve never seen Price do that. He seems to have to get fairly close to his opponents before he’s able to throw a medium distance jab.

I’m not sure why precisely that Price doesn’t use his long reach and 6’8″ height to stand far on the outside to throw his jabs and punches. My guess the flexibility might not be their for Price, because he looks as rigid as heck. He needs to take stretching classes to try and limber up because he’s too tight.

Wladimir would be moving around the ring with ease landing shots, whereas Price would likely have to get in close to throw his punches. I see Wladimir as the harder and much faster puncher. As such, Price wouldn’t stand a chance. I do agree with Wladimir that Price seems to have patterned part of his game after him. However, Price doesn’t have Wladimir’s lab hook, long right hand and power jab. I see Price as a watered down version of Wladimir. He’ll do okay against fighters, but I think he’ll get crushed by Wladimir, Vitali Klitschko, Kubrat Pulev, Robert Helenius, Dereck Chisora, David Haye, Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury.
