Image: Roach: They should overturn Khan's loss to PetersonBy William Mackay: Trainer Freddie Roach thinks his fighter Amir Khan’s loss to Lamont Peterson should be overturned due to Peterson’s recent positive drug test for performance enhancing drugs in addition to the information that Peterson used the testosterone in the months before his fight with Khan.

Roach told Jim Lampley of HBO “I think they [IBF, WBA, Washington State Athletic Commission] should overturn that and give Amir Khan his titles back. They’re talking about making it a no contest and making the titles vacant. I think it [testosterone] was in his system in the fight. I think the decision should be reversed.”

How can they reverse the decision when Peterson tested negative for performance enhancing drugs before his win over Khan last December. It doesn’t matter if Peterson used testosterone for treatment for his testosterone deficiency well before the Khan fight, what matters is he tested negative for performance enhancing drugs for that fight and there’s no reason to strip Peterson of his two titles.

Khan said “I still want one more fight at 140, so I can put on some muscle and bulk and move up to 147 nice and strong.”

Khan wants to be able to either get his two titles back by having them given to him or he wants to be able to have them on the line for his next fight, which could be against WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia on July 7th in Las Vegas. After that, Khan wants to move up to 147 and see what he can do at that weight. He may not get the fight against Garcia, because he’s supposed to be defending his title against his mandatory challenger Ajose Olusegun.

I don’t see the point in Khan being given back his two titles. What difference will it make? He was already beaten by Peterson, and even if they give him back his titles, it won’t erase what happened in the ring. Sure, they can turn the fight result around and call it a no contest but the fight is still there. Khan looked terrible against Peterson, fighting as if he was in full panic mode due to Peterson’s pressure. You give Khan the titles back but it almost looks like a childhood thing where someone grips and they’re given their candy back after they got bullied. I think Khan should forget about the titles and move on. He obviously can’t fight Peterson because he’s going to be likely out of commission for a while, and there’s no point in fighting Garcia because he was almost exposed by Erik Morales. Khan should move up in weight now and find out what his destiny is going to be at 147. I don’t think he’ll like what’s going to find.
