Image: Roach bragging about how hard Pacquiao is training for Bradley fightBy Chris Williams: Freddie Roach is crowing about how hard his man Manny Pacquiao is working in getting ready for his June 9th fight against undefeated Tim Bradley for their HBO televised pay-per-view fight. I sure hope Roach is correct, because we can’t have Pacquiao looking as awful as he did last time he fought last November in winning a gift decision over Juan Manuel Marquez.

Roach said to ESPN “Maybe Bradley should come over to the Wild and see how hard Manny works in the ring. No one works harder – no one – and Manny is not ready to give up his throne. Manny is so serious. He gave up playing basketball.”

This is kind of funny. What throne is Roach talking about? I hope he’s not talking about some kind of imaginary throne, because the only throne I see is the World Boxing Organization catchweight welterweight title Pacquiao won over Miguel Cotto at a catchweight. I consider that a catchweight belt, and not real one because it involved a catchweight.

Boxing needs to get it’s act together and create special catchweight titles for fighters that aren’t interested in fighting champions at the full weight. Either that or have an asterisk put on wins that come with a catchweight involved. If this was baseball and a homerun slugger needed the have the fences brought in closer to give him and advantage because he lacked the size to hit over the fence, I think there would be asterisk involved. Catchweights are basically handicaps.

Pacquiao needs to train like a mad man if he wants to make sure he doesn’t get whipped by Bradley on June 9th and blow whatever small chance he has at getting the Floyd Mayweather Jr. payday fight before he retires. Pacquiao can’t afford a loss to Bradley right now, and he probably can’t afford another questionable decision either for that matter.
