Pianeta decisions 47-year-old McCall; Kentikian loses to McMorrow

By Jim Dower: Heavyweight contender Francesco Pianeta (26-0-1, 14 KO’s) kept his unbeaten record intact with a solid clinch-filled 10 round unanimous decision over 47-year-old former WBC heavyweight champion Oliver McCall (56-12, 37 KO’s) at the Brandenburg Halle in Frankfurt, Germany. The final judges’ scores were 98-92, 97-93 and 99-91.

McCall landed some nice shots. However, with Pianeta attaching himself to McCall with constant clinching there wasn’t much McCall could do other than land a few shots between each clinch. It was pretty ugly to watch and it’s hard to believe Pianeta is ranked in the top 15 in the heavyweight division.

In women’s boxing, WBO/WBF/WBA world flyweight champion Susi Kentikian (29-1, 16 KO’s) finally suffered her first defeat of her career, losing by a 10 round decision to Mellisa McMorrow (7-3). The final judges’ scores were 96-94, 96-94 and 95-95.
