They had been hoping to face Haye, but with Haye taking the fight against Dereck Chisora on July 14th, it doesn’t leave enough time in between then to promote the Haye-Vitali fight.

According to the BILD, the vast majority of top 15 contenders listed by the World Boxing Council has already been ruled out for a fight against Vitali. The only fighter left right now is 27-year-old #11 WBC conteder Manuel Charr (21-0, 11 KO’s).

Although Charr isn’t recognizable among the casual boxing fans in the United States, he’s well known in Germany and somewhat popular. He doesn’t have much in the way of power and is kind of sloppy. His best wins have come against Taras Bydenko, Danny Williams and Marcelo Luiz Nascimento. Other than that, Charr has faced strictly 2nd and 3rd tier opposition. Vitali should easily beat Charr without too many problems. It’s a fight that will only interest the German and Ukrainian fans of Vitali, however, because Charr doesn’t register with U.S fans.

Vitali is looking to get a good in on either September 1st or September 8th and use that momentum to go into the election campaign with his party UDAR. Obviously taking a risky fight against Haye would likely put Vitali in danger of getting beaten. That could hurt him in the elections.
