Image: Khan pushing hard for no contest in Peterson fightBy John F. McKenna (McJack): Former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-2, 18 KO’s) along with Golden Boy Promotions is pushing hard to have his loss to IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson overturned and declared a no contest. And Peterson appears to have given Khan and Golden Boy the ammunition they need.

In a shocking development it was announced last Monday that Peterson had failed two drug tests. Further it was revealed that Lamont had been administered testosterone pellets by a doctor prior to his December clash with Khan. The best excuse that Team Peterson has been able to come up with for using the banned substance is that Lamont has a very low testosterone level in his body. Notwithstanding testosterone is a banned substance and should not have been used prior to a world title fight.

When the first drug test administered by the Voluntary Anti Doping Association (VADA) came back positive Team Peterson sat on the information in the hope that Lamont would somehow pass the second test. When the second test came up positive as well, Peterson had no alternative but to face the music and disclose the information.

Evidently the VADA testing process is a good deal more sophisticated and stringent than the test Lamont was subjected to prior to his fight with Khan. The Khan – Peterson fight took place in Peterson’s hometown of Washington, D.C. The controversy surrounding the fight is well documented. The IBF and the WBA are reviewing the case as is the boxing commission in Washington, D.C.

Understandably Khan is livid with Peterson and was quoted by ESPN on Wednesday night saying the following:

“ He’s a fake and I’d tell him that to his face. Lamont is a fake and a fraud who cheated his way through. Now he will always be remembered as a cheater just like Antonio Margarito. We used to have a lot of respect for Peterson. But now, I think he’s let all of the boxing fans around the world down for what he’s done.”

“Of course, it should be called a no contest. That was his first world title fight, he was at home and he would do anything he could to win.

“I hit him with everything I had in that fight and he kept getting stronger and stronger. He was recovering so fast with all the punches he was getting caught with. People were saying they had never seen him like that and now we know why.”
