Froch will have problems with Bute’s power

Image: Froch will have problems with Bute's powerBy Scott Gilfoid: Carl Froch picked the wrong fighter to try and turn things around in his career against by choosing IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute to fight on May 26th instead of a nice easy scrub to get his confidence back.

Froch got whipped by WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward last December in an embarrassingly one-sided loss at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Froch has now had five months to lick whatever physical and mental wounds from that loss and to start over again. Unfortunately, Froch has chosen perhaps the biggest puncher in the super middleweight division in Bute.

I’m not saying that Bute is infallible, because he makes mistakes like any fighter, as we saw in his first fight against Librado Andrade. However, Bute rarely screws up, and he’s so perfect with his defense that he’s hard to hit cleanly. But what makes him almost unbeatable is his power. Bute is easily the best body puncher in the 168 pound division by far, and he can go to the head to get knockouts as well. His power is perfectly balanced to where he can stop an opponent with a single shot whether it be to the head of body.

This isn’t going to end well for Froch I hate to say. Sure, he’s fighting in front of his loving British fans in Nottingham on May 26th, but it won’t matter. Those fans won’t be in the ring with Froch to hold his hand in this fight or to block the huge body punches thrown by Bute with knockout intentions written all over them. I think it’s going to be nearly impossible for Froch NOT to get knocked out because he’s going to be getting hit with some shots that he’s not used to taking, in particular to the body where Froch is rarely hit.

There are fighters out there that can probably easily handle Bute like the Dirrell brothers and Ward, but Froch isn’t one of them. He’s too slow and hittable for him to win this fight.
