Image: Corley stops McCloskey in 10th round!By Scott Gilfoid: As I predicted earlier in the day, the power punching southpaw DeMarcus Corley (39-19-1, 23 KO’s) was simply too much for Ireland’s Paul McCloskey (23-2, 12 KO’s), busting up his nose early and knocking him out in the 10th round on Saturday night at the Kings Hall, Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. I hate to gloat, but I told you what was going to happen, didn’t I?

Referee Ian John-Lewis literally had to jump in and save McCloskey after Corley staggered him with a peach of a right hand in the 10th. Rather than let Corley move in and decapitate McCloskey with a left hand, the referee stopped the bout at 2:28 of the round. I thought it was a good stoppage because the shot that Corley hit McCloskey with caused his whole body to quiver rather than just his legs. McCloskey would have been smashed to smithereens if the referee had let Corley add in the old coup de grĂ¢ce.

Corley was basically dominating the entire fight, hitting McCloskey with left hands, right hooks and stiff jabs. He was falling for any his tricks and just kept pounding on the Irish fighter. McCloskey just didn’t have the talent to beat the American Corley, and he ended up getting beaten up. I imagine McCloskey’s beak must be sore right about now courtesy of Corley’s left hand bombs he kept dropping on him. It was too easy for Corley. I mean, when you got a world class fighter taking on a Euro level guy like McCloskey, this what you get.
