Corley: I’m coming straight at McCloskey like a locomotive; he’s going down

Image: Corley: I'm coming straight at McCloskey like a locomotive; he's going downBy Scott Gilfoid: 37-year-old hard hitting southpaw DeMarcus Corley (38-19-1, 22 KO’s) is coming to knockout Ireland’s Paul McCloskey (23-1, 12 KO’s) in light welterweight action on Saturday night at the Kings Hall, Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.

Corley doesn’t want to leave it to chance and find himself getting robbed by the judges, so he’s going to KO McCloskey to make sure he leaves Northern Ireland with a win. Heck, I don’t blame Corley one big for wanting to obliterate McCloskey, because we just saw Breidis Prescott batter McCloskey for 12 rounds and leave Belfast with a big fat loss courtesy of a 12 round unanimous decision. That was one of the worst scored fights I’ve ever seen before, and no way did McCloskey deserve that win.

Corley said this on Sky Sports Ringside “I know they [McCloskey’s fans] Paul to win, so it will motivate me, giving me more energy to keep coming. In my earlier years, I was more of a slick boxer, but as I’ve gotten older, I’m more of a puncher now. For this fight, I’ll be on the hunt. I know Paul McCloskey doesn’t have enough to stop me from coming. I know I’m going to win this fight, and I know it’s going to be by knockout. It’s not going to go the distance. He hasn’t fought a fighter like me that comes straight forward like a locomotive train, and with the punching power I’m going to deliver. There’s only one way Paul can go and that is down.”

I totally agree with Corley. He’s going to knock McCloskey cold, and shut the yaps of all his Irish fans in Belfast. But Corley is going to have to chase McCloskey around the ring first, because once McCloskey tastes some of Corley’s power, he’s not going to want anymore. He’ll go into the survival mode, even worse than he did against Prescott and really stink up the joint.

Corley is a much better puncher than Prescott, and he’s going to show McCloskey power that he’s never seen before. McCloskey and Corley are both southpaws, but it’s going to favor Corley because McCloskey can punch his way out of a wet paper bag. Corley isn’t going to respect McCloskey’s power and is going to walk through his feather-fisted punches in order to land his big left hand bombs. I can see McCloskey getting knocked out early in this fight. I just hope the referee doesn’t give McCloskey a long count in order to let him have a chance. It won’t matter. If McCloskey gets up after 15 seconds, he’ll just get knocked down again and the beating will be prolonged.

I feel sorry for McCloskey. He’s going to get spanked in front of all his Irish fans and be left on his back staring at the lights after Corley connects with one of his big left hand shots.
