Image: Corley battles McCloskey on SaturdayBy Scott Gilfoid: I sure hope DeMarcus Corley (38-19-1, 22 KO’s) plans on shooting for a KO on Saturday night against Paul McCloskey (23-1, 12 KO’s) because it may be the only way the guy will escape with a win. The fight will be taking place in McCloskey’s home city at the Kings Hall in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

McCloskey is coming off a controversial 12 unanimous decision over Breidis Prescott last September in a fight where McCloskey appeared to win only one round on my card.

The fight was enormously one-sided from start to finish, as McCloskey didn’t have the power, reach or the boxing skills to compete with former Amir Khan conqueror Prescott. However, the judges may have been influenced by the loud crowd, who were cheering every punch that McCloskey threw, including all the ones where he missed or had punches blocked.

There were quite a few missed punches by McCloskey, but to hear the Irish crowd, you’d think he was landing at will instead of missing by a mile.

Corley, 37, has a big power advantage in this fight and he’s also the much faster fighter in terms of hand speed despite being five years older than McCloskey. Corley, 5’7″, is a little shorter than the 5’8 1/2″ McCloskey, but that doesn’t matter because McCloskey doesn’t much of a jab and again, he has no power whatsoever.

Corley should win this fight by a knockout or a lopsided decision. I think he’ll have to KO McCloskey to get the win, though, because after seeing Prescott get jobbed in Belfast last September, I see the same thing happening here with McCloskey winning another ridiculous decision. It’ll hurt him in the long run though because no one will want to risk traveling to Belfast to fight him if he gets another gift decision like in the Prescott fight. I’m praying that the judges get it right this time, but I don’t see it happening.
