Image: Broner vs. Escobedo: Adrien ready to annihilate another opponent By Scott Gilfoid: WBO super featherweight champion Adrien Broner (23-0, 19 KO’s) is set to show his stuff against a BADLY over-matched #1 WBO Vicente Escobedo (26-3, 15 KO’s) on July 21st in Cincinnati, Ohio.

You can’t blame the 22-year-old Broner for this weak opponent, because it’s the World Boxing Organization’s fault for ranking Escobedo at #1 after four empty wins over 2nd tier opposition in the past two years. All Broner done is line them up and knock them down. A clearer picture of where Escobedo is as a contender is his losses to Michael Katsidis and Robert Guerrero. Those defeats pretty much sum up the chances that Escobedo has against the Mayweather-esque Broner on July 21st.

Escobedo has no chance at all whatsoever, and will likely be blown out in one or two rounds just like Jason Litzau was. In fact, I’d favor Litzau over Escobedo any day of the week. Those guys should have fought each other with the winner than taking on Broner. But seriously, I’d like to see Broner face better opposition than this, but again it’s not his fault that the WBO sanctioning body went ahead and ranked Escobedo so highly despite the fact that he’s been slapped down each time he’s tried to step it up against halfway decent opposition.

Broner has been blowing guys away left and right in the past couple of years. He’s now well on his way in becoming a star on HBO. We’re still lucky that we can see Broner on regular HBO, because a time will come in the near future where boxing fans will have to pay to see Broner fight on pay-per-view, and we’ll then be wishing for the days when we were able to see Broner more or less for free.

In his last four fights, Broner has beaten the following fighters: Daniel Ponce De Leon, Jason Litzau, Vincente Martin Rodriguez and Eloy Perez. De Leon gave Broner his toughest test, but even he wasn’t skilled enough to compete, and he ended up getting out-boxed.

Escobedo doesn’t have the power, speed or the boxing ability to give Broner any trouble in this fight. I see it being an easy win for Broner unless Escobedo develops power and speed all of a sudden.
