Garcia, #1 WBA, #1 WBO, #2 WBC, #8 IBF, is the 35-year-old Caballero’s mandatory challenger looking for a title shot in 2012.

Garcia, 24, is taking a large step up in class in taking on the Panamanian born Caballero, as Garcia has been pretty much facing little more than soft opposition during his six year pro career. His last fight against Bernabe Concepcion, sadly, was a step up for Garcia, and that’s not saying a whole lot.

Garcia has good power, but he doesn’t throw many combinations and seems to fight as if everyone will go down from his one at a time pot shots he likes to throw. He admires his work far too much, and doesn’t seem to realize that his power isn’t that special now that he’s facing B- fighters rather than the D fighters he’s been facing for much of his career.

Caballero is going to be a really difficult fight for Garcia because he throws combinations and is good at landing punches from any angle. He’s able to land shots on the move and he doesn’t need to load up like Garcia to throw with good power. I rate Caballero as a much better fighter than Garcia, and I suspect this is going to be a step too far for the 24-year-old Garcia. If we don’t see one of those questionable decisions like we saw in the Brandon Rios vs. Richard Abril fight recently, I think we could see Garcia lose for the first time.

Caballero won the WBA title last October with a 12 round decision win over Jonathan Victor Barros in their rematch. Caballero lost his first fight against Barros by a questionable decision in July of last year.
