Guerrero, 29, hasn’t fought since last year in April in a win over Michael Katsidis in the lightweight division. Guerrero is now moving up in weight 12 pounds to fight a much bigger puncher in the undefeated Aydin. Guerrero had been planning on fighting Marcos Maidana last year, but he injured his left shoulder during sparring while trying to get ready for Maidana.

The injury was a small tear in his rotator cuff, and it required surgery to repair the problem. With any kind of shoulder injury involving surgery like the kind Guerrero had, you like to see the fighters take a long rest and then look to get a few tune-up bouts to slowly work back into things. But Guerrero is rushing straight into the Aydin fight and wants to get a big money fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. after that if possible. It’s doubtful Guerrero will get that fight, but it’s nice to see that he’s ambitious.

It could turn out to be a really foolhardy thing that Guerrero is doing by moving up not one but two entire divisions and coming off of a serious shoulder injury that required surgery. That sounds kind of dumb to me. But what makes perhaps even more strange is that Guerrero has decided to take on a big puncher in the 28-year-old Aydin. This guy is like the welterweight division’s version of Marcos Maidana, only that Aydin is more suited for the division because of his better stamina and better inside game than Maidana.

Aydin punches with big power in close and he doesn’t tire out like Maidana. He’s a nightmare for anybody, especially someone likes to fight in close like Guerrero. I don’t know but maybe Guerrero can win this fight, but it’ll come at a cost in the punishment he’ll have to take to beat Aydin. Guerrero isn’t going to get a cheap win over Aydin, because he doesn’t lay down for anyone. Aydin will be bringing it to Guerrero all fight long, and unless Guerrero can move around on the outside all night long to try and avoid Aydin, I think he’ll have problems with the pressure.
