Image: Mayweather: I'm going to chop Cotto upBy Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. says he’s ready to get down to some serious business on May 5th against WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, and he’s ready to butcher Cotto and send him down to the canvas in defeat in their HBO pay per view fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather said “I’m going to chop his a** up. There’s two ways he can go. He can fall on his face or fall on his back or he can waive the white flag. That’s three ways he can go now.”

Cotto responded “If he thinks Miguel Cotto is in the last stages of his career; he’s never fought a guy like Miguel Cotto. He’s going to see it and feel it.”

I have no doubts Cotto will inflict some pain on Mayweather on May 5th, because he’s no easy out. However, I also know that Mayweather is going to beat Cotto in one of the three options he listed above – Cotto will go down on his face, his back of he’ll waive the white flag of surrender. What Mayweather obviously means by the last reference is Cotto taking a couple of knees to get out of his first fight against Antonio Margarito when the going got tough in the 11th round and Margarito was chasing him around the ring trying to finish him off. Cotto’s corner could also throw in the towel if Mayweather starts teeing off in a big way. I can also see that happening, especially if Cotto is covered with blood.

Cotto has had problems with cuts in the past as we saw in his fights against Margarito and Joshua Clottey. Once Mayweather gets him bleeding, it’ll likely be a bloodbath with Cotto covered with blood everywhere. I hope he doesn’t get cut because Cotto seems to panic when he starts bleeding by moving too much instead of keeping his head and fighting as before. But once Mayweather sees blood, he just goes all out to finish off his opponents and I see Cotto getting worked.

I wish I could see Cotto’s skin holding together in a fight against Mayweather, but I just don’t think it’s possible. There’s too much fragile skin around Cotto’s eyes due to all the scar tissue he has from past fights in which he was cut, and he seems prone to getting cut anyway. I think Mayweather described it perfectly by saying he’s going to chop Cotto up on May 5th.
