Image: Bellew-McIntosh: Look for Tony to find a way to loseBy Scott Gilfoid: This Friday night a couple of flawed domestic level light heavyweights will be doing battle in a classic toss up fight between British light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (16-1, 11 KO’s) and Danny McIntosh (13-2, 7 KO’s) at the Echo Arena, Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom.

The 32-year-old McIntosh has the better talent of the two if not the bigger power and size. Bellew is slightly taller, and looks stork-like in comparison to the sturdier looking McIntosh. The power advantage that Bellew has isn’t enough to get much of an advantage from it I hate to say. Where this fight will likely be won and is in the pits where the tougher fighter will emerge.

I can’t say it’ll be Bellew despite being slighter taller and stronger. He just doesn’t seem to have the mind to tough it out against a fighter like McIntosh, and I see Bellew finding a way to lose the fight by either running out of gas or fighting so timidly that McIntosh wins the fight almost by default.

Bellew really ran out of gas in his last fight October and turned a winnable fight into a big loss by fading badly in the last four rounds of the fight from the 8th round on.

McIntosh, a former EBU light heavyweight champion, got caught in a back and forth war with technician Eduard Gutknecht last May and ended up getting stopped in the 8th round. It was a winnable fight for McIntosh but he got turned and ended up getting taken out.

McIntosh will have to turn the fight against Bellew into a war because if Bellew is fighting timidly likely he did in his rematch against Ovil McKenzie, McIntosh will end up getting out-boxed and will lose by a 12 round decision. This is why it’s best for McIntosh to take the fight to Bellew to make him quit the fight of get him hurt so McIntosh can get a stoppage.
