Andre Berto was once the most celebrated prospect in the sport – gunning for the top, quicker than any other welterweight in the division, winning his world title.

He also had his sights firmly set on Floyd Mayweather Jr., but his dreams were shattered by “vicious” Victor Ortiz, who made the step up in weight to challenge Berto for his own world title. What happened that night is boxing history. We learned a lot about both fighters, their resolve, their heart. But famously there had to be a winner and in shocking circumstances it was Ortiz who took the title from Berto.

For Berto it is revenge. He feels bitter I’m sure because Ortiz went on to fight Mayweather, and not do the greatest job it has to be said. Berto is on a redemption trail. A victory would once again put him back in the big time chasing the big names. For Ortiz it is a chance to get back in the ring after the debate that was the Mayweather fight, the head butt, the many apologies and of course the two punch knockout.it should be a good tear up. Both men have lots to fight for.

They know the opportunity is there to move on to much bigger things, bigger purses and bigger names. However the loser must start again, rebuild, Ortiz had to do so after the Maidana loss. So he won’t want to do it again. It is one of the many fights to look forward to in the coming months, certainly one of the more intriguing to see where both men will end up after the fight.
